THE Energetic and Immune tradeoffs of coral-microbe symbioses

Corals rely on a multipartner symbiosis with photosynthetic dinoflagellates of the family Symbiodiniaceae and a diverse microbiome of bacteria, viruses, and more. As a postdoc in the Symbiommunity Lab at Texas State University, I will be investigating the dynamics of these partnerships in model cnidarian systems (Exaiptasia diaphana and Astrangia poculata) with a particular focus on how these symbioses impact both immunity and the overall energetic budgets in their hosts.
