ABOUT ME
I am currently a postdoc in the Symbiommunity Lab at Texas State University using molecular tools to better understand the symbiotic relationships between corals and their microbes.
When I was in fifth grade, we were asked what we wanted to be when we grew up. Most of my classmates were answering with jobs like professional athletes, models, actors, etc. I answered with marine biologist. Wanting to be a marine biologist is great, but when you’re the first person in your family to pursue any kind of career in science, that path is anything but clear. Luckily for me I had great advisors to help me navigate this field along the way to get to where I am today, and I look forward to returning that favor for other students in the future.
When I’m not in the lab or the water, I keep plenty busy with lots of hobbies. Sci-art has become a particular love of mine. I use knitting, crocheting, embroidery, sketching, graphic design, and more to create all kinds of science stuff and love coming up new patterns whenever I get the chance!

(Side note: studying microbes and invertebrates is a quick and easy way to confuse family members who assume marine biology is all about whales, dolphins and any other charismatic megafauna they can name)
